Just thought I'd brag about the good MPG I'm getting lately. What's yours like? Anyone getting any better?

Quite the reverse. Mine seems to have dropped off to around 30 lately (and around 24 when towing). It was never more than about 35ish. Since the third year service the average consumption reading seems to change/update much more regularly than it used to. It was always sluggish to change before. Do I trust the digital technology? - No.

Just done a 100 mile round trip of 80% motorways and 20% rural lanes. The first 20 miles was a regen. Average consumption was struggling to reach 30mpg for most of the journey so after 80 miles, whilst on the M2 and showing around 30mpg, I reset BC1 to zero on all readings. The indicated mpg improved greatly and when I parked at home it was showing over 47mpg as an average. I'm beginning to think the digital readings are a waste of time and not worth worrying about - a bit like the 'Daily Mail'.

Average of 20.9 BJS? Ouch, that must hurt sometimes. Seems the auto transmission really affects the fuel consumption on the Antara even though it has a lock-up torque converter. It affects the top speed too. Still it's worth it to not have to bother with that porridge stirrer of a gearstick and who said that 1-2-3-4-5-6 was any fun every time you pull away?
Just a question though, is that 35.5 the temperature down where you are? You could just about half that for the temps up here.

Since I had the car it has averaged 38.4 over 15,000 miles. Since the EGR valve was replaced and regens went to the normal 500 mile routine it was hitting around 42mpg, however now I am doing less of the fast runs on A roads to work I think that will fall a bit.

Yep not high at all but hay being auto and a heavy foot I don’t mind 20ish mpg for a heavy 2.2 ltr turbo charged engine pulling all that weight plus caravan at times But yes would love it to be giving me 45 to 50 mpg but never going to happen with my set up. Yep it has been quite hot down this end of England but heatwave has now finished 😉

I have to be honest here and say the 43.5 doesn't represent my usual MPG, it's artificially low. I was in my BC settings looking for the screen that gives me coolant temperature and I accidentally deleted the MPG figures on BC1 so since then I've done a few runs but very light on the accelerator pedal - much to the annoyance of my fellow road users at times. However my BC2 screen shows an average of 35.5 over 5,700 odd miles and that's genuine.
But how far should I trust these electronic displays? Speedometers are acknowledged to over-read by up to 10% so if we subtract 10% from my average fuel consumption figures it still comes out at just over 32 mpg average which I still don't think is bad. Next thing I'd like to do is check how accurate the mileometer readings are but for that I'd need to plague the politicians up at Edinburgh to re-instate the mileston markers on all the main roads and that ain't gonna happen, not so long as they have other priorities like shovelling money towards the scallies and junkies so they can get their fixes and the latest mobile phones.
Talking of mobile phones I'm thinking of buying one of these Huawei (?) smart phones (never had a smart phone) and seeing what Apps can be installed. Quite fancy TorquePro for a start and might see about SatNav.

Both Victor and I did and it showed a quite different reading for average consumption. Emperor and New Clothes I wonder and should we trust digital instruments?

Victor - I have heard of this firm previously and it made uncomfortable reading at the time because of the massive control it was claimed could be exerted over customers. You might choose to dig a little deeper and this article is food for thought. Don't forget, banks and the NHS have released customers details on a grand scale just by pressing the wrong button. www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jun/27/huawei-wouldnt-give-australian-users-data-to-china-says-chairman

Yep it's a worry just how much of your personal information is out there, even the TV licence folk know all your personal details just so they can levy their extortionate fees. To paraphrase Pvte Frazer in Dad's Army "We're all doomed" but at least we have the comfort of knowing that large corporations are employing risk-based information governance - doesn't that make you feel a lot better? I know it does for me.
Meantime I'm still struggling with phone specs and "User Reviews" most of which seem wildly irreconciliable.

Hi guys I haven’t reset my BC for a retake but will do. All smart phones have or you can download google maps for free from apps store or if you get a android phone make sure you download protection as a smart phone is like a mini computer which connects to internet something like (AVG free) which is free as well 😂 I would not put any card details on phone Best set up is pay as you go so don’t run up excessive bills we find giffgaff works well for me and the Mrs £10 a month top. But you have to buy the phone get a unlocked one so you can choose your provider. Just fit any providers SIM card in phone and works but if it’s not unlocked then phone will only work with a certain provider and use desktop view buttons on bottom right gives better view on forum when on the mobile Bad news is i May be off for a while as having the 1st bout of chemo and radiotherapy on Monday morning yep got the cancer in voice box. Yep amazing what I’ll do to get a bit of time off work 😉 😆 well at least I don’t have to worry about loosing my hair as I shave my head been doing so since early 20’s 😉

I'm really sorry to hear about you having to go for treatment BJS and can only wish you the very best for a speedy recovery. I'm sure they will take very good care of you - probably the biggest problem they'll have will be putting up with your sense of humour . Chin up, big man, remember the old saying:
Life is mainly froth and bubbles Two things stand like stone Kindness in another's troubles Courage in your own.
Thanks also for the tips about the phones, I've had a look at Giff Gaff and they look like the biz. We use Tesco right now and they both use the 02 network so reception should be the same. Getting things narrowed down (I hope) to Nokia 3, Huawei Y7 or maybe the Samsung J3. Don't need a really high end one although might upgrade later once I've got a bit more experience.
PS I laughed at your comment about overtime, reminds me of the time the prisoners rioted in Peterhead prison; they took a prison officer hostage for several days and used to parade him up on the roof. Once the SAS flattened them and the officer was rescued his fellow officers said "What some folk will do for overtime, they're never away from here"

Attaboy BJS, courage and determination will help you see it through. Yep I’ve seen the Green Mile, didn’t think it was one of Hanks’s better movies but he’s a great actor, especially liked him in Charlie Wilson’s War about Afghanistan which was also Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s last film. Just thinking, good job it wasn’t A Tale of Two Cities you and your Mrs were talking about. By the way did you hear that Wrigleys have launched a new website where you can order chewing gum online? It's called ebuygum.com
