Just been reading about the pros and cons of buying premium diesel, rather than the standard stuff. The articles were inconclusive, apart from possible benefits to high performance cars and perhaps a modest benefit to certain engines from manufacturers. It was a matter of taste and try for yourself and if you notice an improvement then good luck to you.
For my part, I recently switched allegiance from Shell to Texaco after many years (nothing to do with the fuel - more to do with the running of Shell's useless rewards points system). I never buy supermarket fuel because I just don't trust it over a long period. My car runs as well on Texaco as it did on Shell. However, I do fill up with Texaco Supreme Diesel every fourth tank or so and I notice a difference with that. The car is brisker and the average mpg improves on the display by about 3, probably as a consequence of a better burn but the cost difference is significant. If it helps to keep the injectors and exhaust system in better shape then it will be worth it. The DPF still regens at about 500 miles but the process doesn't seem to take as long as it used to (now approx 15 miles instead of around 20).
