How difficult is it to remove the EGR valve and clean it? It seems its a mechanical item that needs cleaning rather than changing?

Never had to take mines out Volrider but it looks like it's not too bad a job from what I can see. If this works right I should have a picture of my engine up with a yellow arrow showing the EGR location and its orange connector plug. Ignore the red arrow, that's just the common rail pressure switch. You might have to do some stripping of bits to get them out of the way but can't tell you which. Difficult part comes after you've removed the screws, the EGR valve is often stuck in place and hard to remove. For cleaning them out I use barbeque foaming cleaner on the metal bits - best not to go near the electrical plug or actuator.

When they changed mine it was listed as .25hr job, so I would guess its not too difficult.I hope mine doesnt need to be done again!! I think I will probably use the car less as I have little chance of doing long runs much now, I have a 20 mile round trip to take the dog to his day center! today so it will get two runs a week doing that! Crazy isnt it

I am getting very frustrated with this DPF stuff, after the last minor regen it did the same today, that's after a good motorway run yesterday, today I did a trip to shops and it started to regen again, I dropped off the wife and shopping and jumped in while the fan was still running, onto the motorway but the bugger would not go into regen mode.... This is killing me as I know the bloody dpf light will soon flash yet I am doing everything by the book. I did a code reader check afterwards and it showed one code on the DTC but when I went to view it it said 1 N/A so I guess its a VX only code reader to work that one out. It is due its 3rd service next month and with 24k miles on it I am losing confidence in this thing, that and reading everyone's it seems constant issues I am wondering if I should just get rid. The bloody annoying thing is I love driving it for position controls and the huge power it has, but like a wayward wife I just cant trust the bloody thing anymore....

Sometimes the fan runs on for a short period on mine, but it is not doing a regen. Presumably the engine is hot!

Yes Dulac mine done a regen a few weeks ago And I have noticed the fans overrunning for about 20 secs on switch off during the hot weather So I hopefully don’t think it’s a problem just hot weather related

The fan will often run on if you have had the A/C on but after a few secs it shuts off. The Regen failed/halted will cause the fan to come on far more loudly for a bit longer, the car was giving the DPF regen smell and also the MPG had dropped all classic signs of a regen....

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with yours again Volrider, I thought all that was over. This DPF thing, it's like when you go to the toilet to do a number 2 and maybe the front door bell goes or your phone rings or you get otherwise disturbed and don't get finished then you can't just go back in and expect your bowels to pick up where you left off. The ECU must be a bit like that if it has scheduled a DPF regen and you switch off before it's finished, the ECU gets bloody minded and just leaves you guessing as to when the next time is. It makes no difference to it that you have no way of knowing when e regen is happening, in fact it might start one or two and then stop them itself just to keep you confused.
But, seriously, didn't you say you had tried one or two additives, so does that mean they've been unsuccessful?

The DPF light has never illuminated on mine (apart from at startup). Am I just fortunate or is it Shell diesel and regular motorway use for 31 000 miles?

I think it probably is to do with the premium fuel and the motorway use with yours Dulac but I know someone who had a Volkswagen Passat 2 litre diesel (2012 or 2013 model year) who only ever put supermarket diesel in his and never had any trouble with the DPF - ever. He used it for short runs every day like going for a newspaper in the morning but did motorway runs as well sometimes although not all that often. Different DPF system I know, just wish we had something like that on the Anty

I only had the DPF light come on after I had it for two weeks, since then I never had it return as I am very aware of DPF Regeneration etc. Yesterday same happened again... drove dog to his day care stuff, bloody thing started to regen as soon as I dropped him off, so I started it up and drove off, no regen again!!!! So I blasted it in 2nd gear up to the rev limiter and bingo it went into regen, so instead of going home via the local shop to get my sanity tablets I had to drive onto a fast road to and do 20 to 30 miles out my way to clean the dpf.... So I came home told the wife to put the gardener down and get dressed and took her to look at a Freelander 2 XS 2014 with 13,000 miles on the clock, drove it and thought what a tight car with loads of gismos superb drive TD4 engine had lots of punch (not as quick as my Antara with its racechip pro) but the price is big.... Time will tell if I go that way or continue to roll my worry beads with the Anatara
