Yep we all suffer from it some far worse than others, I have had my fair share of issues with constant regens and slight juddering on light throttle. Eventually fixed about 10,000 miles ago by the dealer (after a lot of persuading that I had a fault!) EGR valve replaced and perfect ever since. Well until 1am this morning when I got home from work, switched the beast off and then the smell of heat and the engine fan cut in, now I only had a 3 mile hop home no air con so the fan should not be on, definite DPF regen again. Sadly only 300 miles after the last one.... The only thing thats changed is I do less miles now as my work base is 3 miles instead of 20 odd each way so no long runs anymore, I wonder if thats the issue I need to get a job thats further away to keep the engine happy

I must sound mad but if I need to take a 3 mile trip I will always drive longer (having very easy access to the M2/M25/A2 roads) just to make sure that the systems are hot before turning the engine off. A waste, I know, but in simple engineering terms it might be the right approach for a large(ish) diesel. We bought a Smart4Two for the run of the mill trips but I give that an Italian tune-up every now and again.

Since I got my BC activated I know if I keep pressing buttons I can get the engine temperature displayed when I'm stopped but I'm not sure whether that would continue to display after I started driving. Must try it and see.
Getting the instant fuel consumption on the screen was the biggest help I've had in seeing when a DPF regen was taking place. I was lucky the other week we were going on a 100 mile round trip and I noticed the 10 - 12 mpg figure so it was doing a regen. We joined the motorway and I kept it in 4th gear above 2,000 rpm but it took about 20 minutes to complete then I moved up into 6th gear. Luckily we were doing a motorway run so it was a clean regen, ran great after it and no fans running on or anything like that. It's still a pain in the rear end though.

Thank you BJS. Unfortunately it doesn't work on mine (I have a central screen) but I found this on Youtube as an addendum. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmaePG_9Z08p.s. I have just tried that one and it also doesn't work on mine.

For the 'settings' button I use the +/- rocker on the stalk and the 'computer' button is the press wheel on the steering wheel hub. Is there a button to press to reveal more secret buttons?

Ok update on the regn issue, this morning took the car on the M42 for 25 miles and nothing, no regen at all, ran it at 2500rpm got it hot bit no regen, normally once the engine is hot 10 mins or so it will regen if the previous regen was interrupted, I think I will see how it goes and not worry too much about it, having the BC activated means I am constantly looking to see if the MPG is dropping as a sign of the regen, there must be a simpler way of life!!
The car has run pretty well after the EGR issues, normally on a Sat and Sun I do a 25 mile jaunt to work 75% on fast dual carriage way so I can get good mpg and clean Regens every 500 miles, now my work base has moved closer it may be a case of the Antara not getting used much at all as short runs dont seem to be suitable for this engine. I use fuel additive every fill up (Millers). Its due its 3rd year service next month, I will keep an eye on it. I am taking it to my local indy garage to put it up on ramps to check for oil leaks etc before the service as the warranty is out then.

When I here my fans running on when switch off I know it's trying to do a regen but just carry on driving as normal my light has only come on once in nearly 2 years and then I drove from a249 onto m2 junction 5 towards Canterbury keeping revs above 2000 light had gone off before I got to junction 6. I don't like the idea of wasting fuel and time just to do a regen I only act when light comes on but fans let me know when it's trying to complete a regen. Normally about every 500 miles some members reset there BC and keep check on miles done. That's not for me just drive enjoy your Antara and as long as you are aware of the regen cycle and what it does and how to run a regen cycle you should be ok Regens become a problem for people who only do short trips school run round to local shops etc as this will not achieve a full regen cycle. If you are going up and down the motorways a regen will come and go without you even knowing it's done one unless your watching the mpg display. I would enjoy driving and when you hear fans running after switched off next journey on motorway just keep lower gear to maintain 2000 rpm and you should never see the regen light come on and fans should stop on switch off after you have done a journey you was doing anyway

My Regens have been more frequent recently between 250 and 350 miles. I also have intermittent hesitation on light throttle but nothing will be done as the technical case opened by the dealer has been closed. Vauxhall Technical are happy that this frequency is acceptable. Previous 6000 mile were around the 500 mile mark (yes, I reset my trip computer and keep a spreadsheet as well). I wonder if the hot weather has an effect? Will be towing 200 miles at the weekend so let's hope it is 'normal'.

Hi screwball I would say sounds like EGR valve starting to get to much carbon build up Keep pestering the dealers each day so you become on 1st name terms Hopefully they will then change the EGR valve even if itβs just to stop you pestering them π
