Ever see the granny jersey that says "If we'd known grandchildren were this much fun we'd have had them first"
The reason grandparents and grandchildren get on so well is that they both have a common enemy!

Hello Ginner, I'd like to add my welcome to the forum also. It is a pity they changed the old forum, I take a quick look at it most days but there seems to be very little interest. Shame really, there's a lot of information in the database there.

Hi all
I am a new owner of an Antara and must say I am impressed with it so far. Prior to this I have owned 3 xtrails, 1 Rav4, 2 discos, 1 freelander and a series 3 LR. Currently use the Antara as my daily and have a little MG for summer fun. Do all my own maintenance, repair and servicing, so hoping to gain loads of valuable info from the other forum members as well as contribute where I can.
I did join the other forum but found it unhelpful.
Best regards Dave

Welcome to the forum, milton. An impressive list of the larger wagons - do you tow by any chance? Make sure you do regular long runs, with very few short hops, in the Antara to keep the DPF sweet otherwise you will curse it. The DPF regeneration process is the weak link on the Antara and has generated loads of comments and queries among owners. Other than that the later ones are excellent value for money and can work hard if you want (including a chain rather than a belt). It sounds corny but there are a lot of information and procedures within the owner's manual. What are your vehicle details?
I still tune in to the other forum every now and again but I see that Newbies' requests for help now often go unanswered.

Hi Dulac
Thanks for the warm welcome. Towed in the past, mainly dinghies and small yachts. We did have a caravan for a few years but not any more. Luckily I do a 60 mile commute to work 3 times a week which gives the car a chance to stretch its legs. Car is a 61 plate 2.2cdti se auto. Bought it mainly for the winter months but also as a carry all in the summer. So far it has had a full service and the diff fluid changed. Doing the transfer box this weekend and the gear box next year when it warms up a bit.
I posted a few times on the other forum and got no response, i also noticed a large number of genuine questions were going unanswered, not my kind of forum.
Best regards Milton

As Dulac says, that's quite an impressive list of vehicles you've had and I'll bet you've accumulated a load of practical experience on them all. I like a man who gets into it with the spanners, sometimes these days it's the only way to make sure things are done right. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine.

Hi Victor. Many thanks for the welcome. I am an engineer by trade so I like to do it myself where I can. It takes me a bit longer these days but at least I know its right. I have always had a workhorse for the boats, some of them looked like sheds but they were reliable and well maintained (even the LR's)
Early days with the Antara but impressed so far
Best regards Milton

Best regards Milton After a bit of research on transfer box fluid a while ago, it seems that no-one makes an acceptable equivalent for use on the Antara apart from GM. Why, I don't know but I should prefer to use the recommended stuff rather than take a chance given that transfer boxes are an emotive subject on the Antara pages. My local VX dealer didn't stock it and had it sent over from another of its branches.

Thanks for the advice Dulac. I will be using millers trx synth. Have used millers oils in all my softroad and offroad transmissions, diffs and transfer boxs and never had a problem, although I did blow the rear diff on one of my discos but that had nothing to do with the fluids used lol.
Best regards Milton

Milton, that's food for thought. I see that Millers states that its trx synth 75w 90 is appropriate for 'normal' use in the Antara's transfer box and elsewhere. Learning, learning all the time! I wonder what GM would make of it in the event of a transfer box claim under warranty (particularly as the transfer box fluid check doesn't seem to be part of a standard VX service)? It is difficult to believe that the GM stuff has some absolutely magical property within its make-up unless the case seals are different somehow, but goodwill, insurance and claims are all part of a very large game indeed. It is why I only use the correct ink cartridges in my printer.
