I decided to move onto a 2014 Land Rover Freelander 2 and after 6 whole days of ownership (not many miles put onto the existing 13,000 due to work) I decided to check the oil etc shock to see this air filter box damage, obviously it wouldn't fit properly so bolted up until it broke!! Took it back and they have agreed to replace the complete air filter housing, I also have low battery signal and it has developed a judder when changing from 1st to 2nd.... I hope I have not jumped from an imaginary fire into a real one... Great car well trimmed low miles, one owner just have 3 months to find all the faults!!

The strange thing is that Land Rover dont do service books anymore! All on line, easy to check all the service history which I have printed off, but of course the latest service the selling garage did I have asked for the print out so I can keep it for "my service book" I did not realise the engine is a Ford / PSA job which means I bought into the Frenchies....

Hi ya Very Nice motor Tony ๐ Could the judder be because of the air filter box ? It looks like a fresh crack on the cover as itโs edges are clean

Congratulations on the new wheels Tony, nice looking car, haven't seen too many of them in red. I read some time ago that the engine on these was developed by PSA/Ford and I believe they come in two ratings, what's the power rating of yours?
Did you ask about the DPF? (can't believe you wouldn't) so does it use Eolys fluid and can that only be added at service time by the LR dealer? Some people get mixed up between Adblue and Eolys, Adblue is nothing to do with DPF, it is solely for reduction of Nitrogen Oxides in the exhaust gases, it's the Eolys which raises the exhasut gas temperature (rather than pouring in gallons of diesel) to help it regen.
I remember reading about owners feeling cheated when they bought their LR's and got a 5 year service package thinking they would get 5 services but for lower-mileage owners the computer only schedules a service every 2 years. So your 5 year service package would be 2 services then you're on your tod. Most owners would want at least their oil and filter changed every year.
Pity about the air filter box but at least they've said they'll fit a new one (make sure tey fit a new filter too). I'd be over it with a bone comb to satisfy myself while it's still in warranty.

An update I took the car down today and as my normal findings with Car dealers (love you when you buy but go a bit cold afterwards..) I was expecting a row, however I asked them to look also at a low battery warning when ignition is on asking for me to start the engine and no stop start (happens if battery is low) also to replace the air filter box that was broken when they replaced the air filter and forgot to notice it.. I also asked to check the judder I get from 1st to 2nd as its slight but hard to smooth out as you let the clutch out.
Anyway the update I just had was a new stop start battery on order! A new air filter housing on order and they reckon the judder is down to the air mixture I guess being all cocked up due to the broken filter box? I am dubious on that but will see what happens..
I am so far pretty happy with this as I did not expect a battery replacement, not on the first visit! I expected a run it a bit and it will charge up... So I left it with them in hope all the bits arrive tomorrow...

Keep your eyes open for some door protectors before the supermarket run!

Donโt forget to mark the bottom old air filter box so you will know they changed the complete air box and not just the top filter cover. As if they do just change the top filter cover then this could break again at a later date as the bottom air box could be out of alignment straining the top fixings ๐
