A reminder for those of you who entrust their Antara' maintenance and MOT to a Vauxhall dealer to join the VX Service Club. Mine is due for a 4-year service and MOT and membership gave me a worthwhile discount off of the original quoted price. my.vauxhall.co.uk/serviceClubRegistration/

Offers like this tend to be sent out from a warehouse not necessarily owned by Vauxhall. On the face of it it seems good value. What does (should) the bulb kit contain - no Xenons I bet? When I toured France last year French law required breathalysers to be carried but the law did not permit prosecutions or penalties against not carrying two! Figure that one out.

Given the high price of Xenon bulbs and Vauxhall's recommendation that they should only be replaced by a dealer (apparently on safety grounds) I never bothered with carrying spare bulbs apart from stop and tail lamps. Note that the Brexit chaos has had some effect upon the labelling of number plates with the 'EU' badge as an integral part. If your rear plate doesn't carry it then the 'GB' sticker is required. For those who tow don't forget to check the caravan/trailer plate.
Us Brits tend to believe that the French police are waiting to pounce on us, to check everything and issue on the spot fines as soon as we leave the Channel crossing; they don't in my limited experience.

Might have to try the Service Club for a price on a rear exhaust silencer. Priced one at VX dealer and they want over £500 for one. Checked up on the other Antara board where BJS had recommended one on Ebay only problem being it's got two outlets which would mean a bit of surgery to the rear panel to make it fit which I'd rather not do. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322954345124?ul_noapp=trueAttachments:

Yikes! Is that just for the box + fitting? Has the existing one rotted away on the outside and is the remainder of the system OK? Is the stainless(?) tail pipe included?

Yep, full price quoted was £496 + VAT which equals £595 (or so he said) and I'd assume the stainless tail pipe was standard. Fitting would be extra. The problem mainly lies with the pipe which connects the front part of the exhaust system to the rear silencer, you might remember I put up a couple of photos on the old board and described it as leopard skin effect. Maybe I could wrap it in somethng just to protect it - no use looking for asbestos tape these days though.

Thanks for that link to the tape on ECP site Dulac, that looks just the biz. I'd thought about heat-resistant paint, I believe that RR used to have a black stove enamel finish on their exhaust manifolds but even that breaks down over time. Don't know how hot the rear silencer pipe gets but suppose it might get up there particularly during a DPF regen. I've just loaned the Antara out to a family member for a month so won't be able to do anything until I get it back. PS Wonder how the Antara would work if I put a Lambretta engine with a turbo in it?

One on each wheel perhaps and then it just might catch a DAF Variomatic (remember them?).

So let's see, 4 Lambretta turbocharged 2 stroke engines with a fan belt for each wheel? Sounds great! What could possibly go wrong?
DAF Variomatics, yes, remember them, they started out with a 2 stroke engine, didn't they? Workmate of mine had one years ago after they were bought over by Volvo who put a Renault engine in it. What could possibly go wrong?
On second thoughts maybe I'll just kep my 2.2 engine in the Antara and leave the engine conversions to the pros.

I used to drive my mother's DAF 33 in the 1970's. What a wretched car that was, mind you, it never let her down and beat walking. It was so simple - move the stick forward to go forward and back to go back and the Variomatic transmission took care of everything else. I suppose it was alright for a woman who refused to take right turns and planned her journeys to only take left ones. She passed her test first time, ha ha. I recall it was like a Citroen 2CV, with a large flywheel that took a while to get spinning and when it did you took off.
