Morning everyone
I am going to change my Gearbox oil as it has done 75k without a change as far as I know, my question is, looking at a drawing of my box if have 3 plugs, top one oil filler, bottom one oil drain, and 1 to the side oil level check, the 1 on the top looks like poor access, can i refill through the oil level check hole, I can't think of any reason why not but just need a sanity check.

Jimmas yes, you're right, you can fill the gearbox through the level plug. Only thing is don't fill it up until the oil runs out, you'll need to put in only the required quantity of gear oil ie 2.4 litres.
The manual 6 spd F40 gearbox had a quantity of 3.2 litres originally but this was reduced to 2.4 litres under a GM TIS Field Remedy 2263 to stop foaming of the oil and improve gear changes. Trouble is I don't think they ever went back and did anything about the position of the level plug which you would normally use to check that the oil was at the correct level during servicing.
