Well just to confirm there is a definite improvement in torque, there is smoother progression through the gears with less throttle needed to achieve wanted speed. The engine now seems to run smoother but engine braking even without caravan on the back seems reduced. The best part of it's performance for me is the mpg when towing caravan. I have just did one of my regular runs to Yorkshire with the caravan & was getting 20mpg now getting 25.5 mpg on same return journey at the same speeds & the same route. Took 5 minutes to fit & was very easy.

Did you reset the displayed fuel readings before your journey? This makes a great deal of difference to what we might believe is our fuel consumption, to the point where I think the instrument is unreliable.

Glad you like your tuning chip Kevin and you're pleased with the increased performance. I recently completed about 800 mile trip with mines and it showed average fuel consumption of 41.6 but that was a lot of motorway driving. As I've said before, I assume a 10% optimism error in the readings but even at 37.5 mpg I reckon it's fair enough for the size and weight of the vehicle.
There's times when I wouldn't want any more power eg if I take off sharpish at a roundabout or a junction I find it's quite easy to induce wheelspin and front axle judder. Does the tuning chip work as low down as that or do you need to get it up the rev range before it kicks in?

You seem to be pleased with the device kevinb and good luck to you. If it cuts down on gear changes when towing that must make life easier. Can you use 6th gear now (I only use it on long runs downhill).

Yes I use 6th a lot more than previously as it seemed to be to high a gear & engine laboured at 55 to 60 mph towing but now it runs at those speeds great in 6th gear. My fuel cost towing previously was 30ppm on my regular return towing journey & now it is 25ppm so it will pay for itself in no time

Mine is the same in 6th, in fact useless when towing and your report update is encouraging, kevinb. However, I still can't understand why - if the chip upgrade is that good - manufacturers don't offer them as a standard installation, particularly in these days of rising fuel costs and I guess this is the main reason I won't buy one (yet). Also, there is a fear among owners that they must remove the chip before leaving the car in the hands of Vauxhall UK for a service. It always seems to be down to customers rummaging around on the Internet to find these things out and source them.
