Parking brake is releasing itself when engine is started when car is on a slight decline. Could it be a fault or will brake need adusting.

Before trying anything have you pulled the switch twice when you park? Apparently it makes the brake grip better. From the OM:
Applying when vehicle is stationary Pull switch, the electrical parking brake operates automatically with adequate force. For maximum force, e.g. parking with a trailer or on inclines, pull switch twice.
If there is a fault then the control panel parking light should flash.

By "release" do you mean that the switch activates, or is it a matter of the car moving while the brake light is still illuminated? If the latter, it might just be the movement of the engine when starting causes an incorrectly adjusted brake to override the friction. A bit like rust on the discs when the car has been standing for a few days in damp weather and the brakes stick until you move about. Victor (I think) previously published an excellent step by step guide to overhauling the parking brake. I cannot recall if it appears on this forum or in another place.

Parking light is on when ignition is turned on, as soon as engine starts when car on decline it starts to roll forward.

Yes seen that but does not mean brake needs adjusting there maybe a fault somewhere hence me asking. Cars going for mot this week so will see if that shows anything.

No harm in asking but surely it is best to eliminate the obvious before searching for the less obvious? I am not sure that parking brake adjustment appears in a standard service schedule - unless you flag it up beforehand - and if the car is several years old something is going to wear out, or stretch.

Past not parking brake perfect.I tried applying footbrake & keeping full pressure on pedal before starting engine when on decline then when engine started release footbrake & parking brake didn't releaseWouldn't that be causing a conflict with Hill Start Assist being employed interfering with normal parking brake release?

Is the parking brake light illuminated when you park each and every time and when you return to the car before and after starting the engine? I have to check the light on mine every time because sometimes the brake doesn't apply even though I've used the switch (perhaps too quickly).
